Jena man arrested after scooter crash, deputies find suspected meth

A Jena man is facing drug charges after he crashed an electric scooter while trying to get away from a LaSalle Parish Sheriff’s Office deputy, authorities said.

Michael Jackson, 43, was arrested Thursday, Oct. 15. He was booked into the LaSalle Parish Jail on charges of possession of a Schedule II controlled dangerous substance (methamphetamine) with intent to distribute, possession of drug paraphernalia, flight from an officer and contempt of court.

LPSO Detective and Public Information Officer Brant King said a deputy saw Jackson around 7:30 p.m. riding an electric scooter across Highway 8 from Head Start Loop. The deputy knew Jackson had an outstanding warrant for contempt of court.

“As the deputy activated his emergency lights, Jackson turned from East Trichell Street onto Haywood Drive before entering a trail leading into the woods,” King said.

The deputy went after him, and Jackson lost control of the scooter and crashed, according to King.

“The deputy took Jackson into custody and located a clear cellophane baggie containing suspected methamphetamine near the scooter,” King said. He said the suspected methamphetamine weighed about 14.4 grams.
